He is professionally known as Denzel Curry. He began his music career in the sixth grade, writing and performing his own rap lyrics. Curry's passion for music continued to grow, and by 2011, he was working on his first mixtape.

Influenced by underground Florida rapper SpaceGhostPurrp, Curry's mixtape caught the attention of Purrp, who featured it on his social media channels. The exposure led to Curry joining Purrp's hip-hop collective, Raider Klan. During his time with the group, Curry released his debut studio album, Nostalgic 64, in September 2013, while still in high school.

After leaving Raider Klan in 2013, Curry continued to make a name for himself in the music industry.
