Hope Tala, born Hope Natasha McDonald on November 18, 1997, is a British singer-songwriter celebrated for her unique blend of R&B, neo-soul, Latin, and bossa nova influences. She studied English literature at the University of Bristol, graduating with first-class honors in 2019. Despite being accepted for a master’s degree at the University of Cambridge, she chose to pursue music full-time, calling it a “one-shot career” and expressing her desire to seize the opportunity while it was available.

Tala began her music journey during her university years, creating her EPs Starry Ache and Sensitive Soul. Her first single, "Blue," came out in 2018 and was later featured on Starry Ache. She gained wider recognition with "Lovestained," which she wrote while completing her dissertation. The song was a critical success, earning the #8 spot on Rolling Stone's “50 Best Songs of 2019” list. Another standout track, "D.T.M.," was also part of her Sensitive Soul EP.

In 2020, Tala released "All My Girls Like To Fight," a powerful anthem about women’s strength and agency. She described it as an effort to tell an expansive story within a song. This track became the centerpiece of her EP Girl Eats Sun. Critics have praised Tala for her ability to combine poetic lyrics with eclectic melodies, showcasing her literary background and musical versatility.
