Ari Staprans Leff (born August 8, 1994) was born in San Francisco, California, United States. He is an American musician and songwriter. He is professionally known as Lauv. He gained widespread recognition with his 2017 hit "I Like Me Better," which was featured on his compilation album I Met You When I Was 18 (2018). His debut studio album, How I'm Feeling, was released in 2020 and reached number 16 on the US Billboard 200.

Lauv's musical journey started early. He formed a rock duo with his friend Mike Wagenheim at age 12, and by 13, they were in a metal band. He then began experimenting with acoustic and electronic music, eventually launching his first solo project, Somersault Sunday, in 2008 at age 14. Under this alias, he released three extended plays: Parting Ways (2009), Intermission (2010), and Phone Calls & Weekends (2010). His song “Wishful Thinking” even featured Trevor Dahl of Cheat Codes.

Lauv’s talent isn’t limited to his own music. He has written songs for other artists, including "Boys" by Charli XCX and "No Promises" by Cheat Codes and Demi Lovato. He continued to build his career with several world tours, including performances across Asia and Europe.
