Louis the Child is an American electronic music duo made up of Robby Hauldren and Frederic J. Kennett. Robby, born on September 7, 1996, in Chicago, attended New Trier High School and briefly studied at the University of Southern California before leaving to focus on music. He started as a DJ under the name Haul Pass. Frederic, born on October 19, 1997, also attended New Trier High School and produced music under the alias Fatboy while still in high school. The two met at a Madeon concert in 2012, sparking their collaboration.
The duo started performing at small venues in 2013 and 2014. They gained recognition in 2015 with their breakout single "It’s Strange." The track was praised by Taylor Swift and featured on the FIFA 16 soundtrack, boosting their popularity. During this time, Robby was in his first year of college, and Frederic was still in high school. They opened for artists like Madeon and The Chainsmokers and launched their own tour later that year.
In 2016, they teamed up with rapper Pell to form the side project Pellican Child, releasing the single "Turn Me Down" and planning an EP. By 2017, Louis the Child was headlining tours, with performances that included a sold-out show at the Aragon Ballroom. Their song "Go" was featured in an Apple iPad Pro commercial that same year.
The duo continued their rise, playing major festivals like Lollapalooza South America in 2018 and releasing the hit single "Better Not" with Wafia, which surpassed 100 million Spotify streams. In 2019, they performed at Red Rocks Amphitheatre and the X Games. The name “Louis the Child” was inspired by a random Wikipedia search, adding a unique touch to their story. Today, they remain celebrated for their catchy, upbeat sound.
