Migos was an American hip-hop group formed in 2008 in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The group consisted of Quavo, his nephew Takeoff, and their cousin Offset. They brought their North Atlanta roots to the mainstream, becoming key figures in trap music during the 2010s. Managed by Coach K, the former manager of Gucci Mane and Jeezy, Migos often collaborated with top producers like DJ Durel, Murda Beatz, and Zaytoven. Billboard praised them for influencing pop culture and language through their music.
The group rose to fame with their 2013 single "Versace," which gained even more attention after being remixed by Drake. Hits like "Bad and Boujee" (featuring Lil Uzi Vert), "MotorSport" (with Nicki Minaj and Cardi B), "Stir Fry," and "Walk It Talk It" solidified their presence in the music industry. "Bad and Boujee" reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100, showcasing their mainstream appeal.
Migos released their first album, Yung Rich Nation (2015), to positive reviews, peaking at number 17 on the Billboard 200. Their second album, Culture (2017), debuted at number one, led by the success of "Bad and Boujee." They left 300 Entertainment in 2017 for a partnership with Motown and Capitol Records, further boosting their career. Their third album, Culture II (2018), also topped the Billboard 200, while Culture III (2021) peaked at number two.
In 2016, Migos appeared as themselves in the TV series Atlanta. Unfortunately, in November 2022, Takeoff was tragically shot and killed in Houston. This led to the group disbanding in 2023, marking the end of an influential era in hip-hop. Despite their split, Migos' impact on music and culture remains significant.
