Album Overview

"Blue Lips" is the sixth studio album by American rapper Schoolboy Q, breaking a five-year hiatus since his last release. Dropping on March 1, 2024, under the banner of Top Dawg Entertainment and distributed by Interscope Records, the project unfolds a captivating journey into the rapper's evolved sound and lyrical prowess.

Setting the stage for the album's unveiling, Schoolboy Q took to his YouTube channel on February 1, 2024, to drop a tantalizing tracklist trailer. Eager to keep the momentum building, he made a promise to his fans?every Tuesday and Thursday leading up to the album's debut would see sneak peeks and previews of the upcoming tracks.

On February 6, 2024, fans were treated to a visual feast as music videos for "Blueslides" and the Devin Malik-assisted "Back n Love" emerged on Q's YouTube channel. These videos, classified as exclusive "album previews," hinted at the sonic and visual experiences the full album would deliver. In addition to these teasers, Q engaged with his audience through mini-vlogs on social media platforms and YouTube, providing a behind-the-scenes look at the album-making process on February 8 and February 13.

The musical journey continued on February 15 with the release of the official lead single, "Yeern 101," accompanied by a visually striking music video. To keep the intrigue alive, a placeholder album cover featuring Q with a Parental Advisory sticker covering his mouth surfaced on the same day. However, the rapper clarified on Twitter that this was not the official cover, which was later unveiled on February 16. Alongside the cover reveal, preorders for the album's merchandise, including physical copies in vinyl and CD formats, became available.

As the clock ticked down to the album's release, Q generously shared more "album previews" on February 20, dropping music videos for the songs "Cooties" and the Devin Malik / Lance Skiiiwalker-assisted "Love Birds." The latter had been teased the previous week during Q's "I'm so good at tHis" vlog, adding an extra layer of anticipation for fans eagerly awaiting the culmination of the artist's creative hiatus.
