Upon its release, Jose reached number 12 on the US Billboard 200 chart, making it one of Balvin's most commercially successful albums to date. It also reached number one on both the Top Latin Albums and Latin Rhythm Albums charts, with 27,000 album equivalent units sold. This marked Balvin's fourth album to top the chart. In addition to its commercial success, the album was also nominated for the Best Música Urbana Album at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards.
A Deluxe edition of the album was later released on December 17, 2021. It includes eight additional tracks, including a remix of "F40" featuring Arcángel.
