Alanis Nadine Morissette (born June 1, 1974) was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. She is a Canadian-American singer-songwriter celebrated for her emotive mezzo-soprano voice and deeply personal songwriting. She is professionally known as Alanis Morissette. She first emerged on the music scene in Canada during the early 1990s with two dance-pop albums.
However, it was her groundbreaking third album, "Jagged Little Pill," released in 1995, that propelled her to global fame. Combining alternative rock and post-grunge elements, the album became a cultural phenomenon, selling over 33 million copies worldwide and earning Morissette the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1996.
