Alina Baraz Bio & Journey
Alina Baraz (born September 24, 1993) was born in Cleveland, Ohio, United States. She is an American singer. She gained prominence in 2015 when she collaborated with Danish electronic producer Galimatias on the remarkable EP titled "Urban Flora," which was released through Ultra Music. This collaboration emerged after their chance discovery of each other's work online. The EP garnered immense acclaim and achieved significant streaming success, propelling Baraz into the music spotlight.
In 2018, Alina Baraz stepped onto the solo stage with her debut solo EP, "The Color of You." Her unique musical style continued to captivate listeners, setting the stage for her debut studio album. April 2020 saw the release of her highly anticipated album, "It Was Divine." The album's singles, including "To Me," "Morocco" featuring 6lack, "More Than Enough," and "Off The Grid" featuring Khalid, showcased her evolving artistry. Notably, the album featured guest appearances from renowned artists Nas and Smino, and it secured a notable position on the Billboard 200 chart, reaching #43.
In a pivotal move, Alina Baraz relocated to Los Angeles, where she stumbled upon Galimatias' electronic music. The duo's musical synergy was undeniable, leading to their EP "Urban Flora," which they created remotely through Facebook interactions. Surprisingly, they met in person only after the project's completion in February 2015. The EP's singles "Drift," "Pretty Thoughts," "Make You Feel," and "Fantasy" paved the way for its commercial release through Ultra Music in May 2015. The EP achieved critical acclaim, reaching number 111 on the US Billboard 200 and an impressive number 2 on the US Billboard Top Dance/Electronic Albums Chart. A remix EP and a co-headlining North American tour followed soon after.
Transitioning to her solo career, Alina Baraz took to the stage at notable festivals like Lightning in a Bottle, Sasquatch! Music Festival, Electric Forest Festival, and Lollapalooza during the vibrant spring and summer of 2016. She introduced her debut solo single, "Electric," featuring R&B sensation Khalid, in January 2017, marking the beginning of her independent journey. Her subsequent 'Let's Get Lost Tour' encompassed various cities in the US and Canada. Further highlighting her versatility, Baraz opened for Coldplay's A Head Full of Dreams Tour in North America in 2017.
Continuing her musical evolution, Baraz's artistic prowess remained strong, as seen in the release of the standalone single "Trust," followed by "Morocco" and "More Than Enough." March 2020 brought the announcement of her debut studio album, "It Was Divine," with its release in April. This album showcased her growth as an artist, featuring compelling collaborations with notable figures like 6lack, Khalid, Nas, and Smino.
In a bold move, Alina Baraz departed from her previous record label, Mom+Pop, and independently released the single "Alone With You" on July 23, 2021. This marked a significant step in her career, demonstrating her artistic autonomy. Accompanying the single was the announcement of a tour of the same name, scheduled for late 2021. The EP series titled "Sunbeam" and "Moongate," released in September and October 2021 respectively, further affirmed Baraz's position as a dynamic and independent musical force.
