Jorge Álvaro Díaz Rodríguez, born in 1989, is a Puerto Rican rapper and singer-songwriter. He began gaining attention in 2015 with his breakout single, Chicas de la Isla, followed by his debut album, Hato Rey, which showcased a mix of soul, funk, reggaeton, and Puerto Rican genres like plena and bomba. In 2016, he released the gritty EP San Juan Grand Prix, but a planned album, Díaz Buenos, Díaz Malos, was never completed.
Díaz gained momentum with singles like West Side and Asiento de Atrás in 2017. In 2019, he collaborated with Rauw Alejandro on the charting single Videos and worked with Sousa on Uwi. He also appeared on Tainy’s hit Mera. His 2020 album, Díaz Antes, featured notable guest artists like Yandel and Cazzu, blending reggaeton, trap, and experimental sounds. That year, he also released Díaz Antes: La Ciudad de los Niños Tristes and collaborated on hits with artists like Eladio Carrión and Caleb Calloway.
In 2021, Díaz broke into the mainstream with Felicilandia, an album inspired by a fictional amusement park symbolizing joy and escapism. In 2024, he released Sayonara, a darker, more experimental follow-up exploring themes of love and loss. The album, praised for its mix of reggaeton, punk rock, hip-hop, and synth-heavy sounds, features tributes to personal experiences, including a heartfelt song for his late manager, Alex Malverde.
Díaz also worked behind the scenes, writing for artists like Karol G and Daddy Yankee, and toured extensively in Latin America and Spain. Known for blending genres and pushing boundaries, he performed a widely acclaimed Tiny Desk Concert in 2024. He continues to evolve as a key figure in Latin music, supported by the NEON16 management team.
