Her musical journey began in Connecticut, where she co-founded the indie pop sensation Chairlift while pursuing her education at the University of Colorado. The duo swiftly gained prominence within the vibrant Brooklyn music scene of the late 2000s, propelled by their sleeper hit "Bruises."

Post-Chairlift, Polachek delved into solo projects, creating music under the monikers Ramona Lisa and CEP.
